Global engineering and rail firm seek experienced and hands on HSE Manager, in greenfield environment

Your new company
We are seeking applications from experienced Health, Safety & Environment Manager to join a globally recognised Railway and Engineering firm in a greenfield environment based in Melbourne. As the HSE Manager you will be working for a leading organisation within the railway and engineering industry, where you will also be tasked with supporting HSE and implementing best practice at the organisations sites in Melbourne and across Victoria.

Your new role
As the successful applicant we are seeking applications from experienced Health, Safety & Environment Managers with a hands on proactive mindset to join this prestigious organisation. It's important to note that this organisation requires a leader first and foremost, as such they're looking for someone who can build strong relationships across all the relevant staff in the organisation to build best practice around their approach to OHS. Similarly, whilst the organisation has established procedures and a framework on its Occupational, Health, Safety & Environmental Management practices they are now looking for an individual who can take a hands-on approach with staff on all level to get their Safety practices where they want them to be.

In this greenfield environment you will implement and action all health, safety and environmental policies and procedures. Develop and conduct regular audits to ensure processes comply with relevant legislation. Provide leadership and support to line managers and supervisors to ensure appropriate compliance checks, analysis and risk assessments are conducted in an efficient manner.

What you'll need to succeed
Extensive experience within a railway, engineering and/or manufacturing environment and formal tertiary qualifications in WHS and Environment are essential. You will hold strong communication and negotiation skills to establish and build successful relationships with the staff in each of the sites. A technical background in the Railway, Manufacturing and/or engineering is desirable. You will be a self-starter and experienced in process improvement and change management. The following experience is also desirable:

  • Strong communicator and ability to build relationships with a range of staff (from all levels)
  • Formal training in HSE Management Systems
  • Occupational, Health, Safety & Environmental Management
  • Ability to implement change and lead safety initiatives.
  • Proven organization skills and the ability to priorities, solve problems not just report them
  • Hands on attitude and flexible to working arrangements
  • Ability to communicate at all levels with good customer interface and presentation skills
