WHS Officer - Contract

Your new company
You will be working with a government department to reduce the impact of injury in the workplace and to build a positive safety culture. The role will work closely with employees and managers, supporting them in managing health matters in accordance with relevant legislation and policy and will assist in the delivery of strategic WHS and staff Wellbeing initiatives.

Your new role

  • Provide administrative support to assist in the efficient and effective delivery of WHS services
  • Co-ordinate the vaccination program across the business
  • Undertake procedural and administrative support or operational tasks including management of email correspondence to a centralised mailbox
  • Manage incident reporting and intervention activities, including stakeholder engagement, incident investigation and corrective action management with the support and guidance of the team
  • Coordinate the WHS Contact Officer Network, including first aid officers, emergency wardens, harassment contact officers and health and safety representatives
  • Coordinate workplace inspections process in line with WHS legislative requirements
  • Manage less complex early intervention and return to work cases including arranging workstation assessments, sourcing and purchasing ergonomic equipment, follow up with staff and managers on implementation of assessment recommendations or return to work program outcomes, monitoring costs associated with case management and actively managing Rehabilitation Providers to ensure safe and durable rehabilitation outcomes with the support and guidance of the team
  • Contribute to staff wellbeing and inclusive culture initiatives through managing events and awareness raising activities

What you'll need to succeed

  • Experience working in HR/WHS in a government department environment and/or tertiary qualifications in Human Resources/WHS
  • An understanding of relevant WHS legislation, policy and procedures within public sector
  • High level organisational skills, attention to detail and ability to effectively prioritise requests while maintaining high standards and accuracy
  • High level skills using Microsoft Office applications including Excel, and ability to use HR systems
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and influencing skills with ability to listen to, identify and understand stakeholder expectations and concerns
