Join a small Federal Government agency committed to delivering strategic and operational HR services located in central Canberra.

Your new role

As an HR Generalist, you will play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality, end-to-end HR services across the department. You will provide expert advice on APS people policy, manage complex HR queries, and support executive-level reporting and workforce planning. This is a diverse and fast-paced role suited to a confident HR professional who thrives on variety and challenge.
Key responsibilities include:
  • Provide accurate and timely advice to staff on APS employment frameworks, policies, and procedures.
  • Manage and respond to a broad range of HR queries from staff and managers.
  • Support workforce planning, HR metrics, and executive reporting.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of HR policies and initiatives.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to support performance management, recruitment, and learning and development.
  • Assist in case management and workplace relations matters as required.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Demonstrated experience in a generalist or relevant HR role within the APS.
  • Strong understanding of the APS employment framework, including the Public Service Act and relevant enterprise agreements.
  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality outcomes under pressure.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build strong stakeholder relationships.
  • High attention to detail and analytical skills, particularly in HR reporting and data interpretation.
  • A proactive, solutions-focused mindset with a commitment to continuous improvement.
High-performing APS5 candidates with relevant experience are also encouraged to apply.
